The image of the monumental head has been correlated to the work of Diego Rivera. I have always loved to paint the monumental form and have returned to the image of the larger than life portrait several times in the past twenty years. I was recently told that this image brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the viewer. That the face is kind and nurturing, and childlike. This is the countenance of one who is truly connected to life and its gifts. The small figures at each side of the head are floating among the clouds. These figures are closely related to indigenous ceremony in posture and stance. I had not realized that I had painted figures which typify actions in ceremony until I had completed the painting. In the 1980s I completed a series of paintings entitled, "Woman of Love and Integrity" and this particular image echos that suite of works, with monumental heads, dark giant eyes and sensuous features
