SPARC Public Art Projects PDF Print E-mail

During the course of the past thirty years SPARC's public art projects have expanded beyond the artform of murals to encompass a wide range of projects. As part of SPARC's continuing mission of sponsoring socially responsible public art projects that give voice to historically marginalized communities and create civic dialogue around socially relevant issues.

SPARC’s public projects, which are national in scope, now number in Los Angeles alone in the 100’s and are considered among the most important landmarks of our city. These works are never simply individually authored endeavors, but are instead collaboration between artists and local residents, resulting in permanent monuments, which rise from within the community rather than being imposed upon it.  SPARC has remained committed to its values as a socially responsible organization utilizing art to bring about social change, and to provide educational opportunities for youth, families and the community at large.  We also remain committed to helping youth and their families find their voice, giving it public expression, and having others hear it; while breaking down barriers, real and perceived, between and within communities. What we do is as much about community transformation and creating permanent sites of public memory as it is about public art.
